Welcome to our unique place
Our accommodation is a special one. Hidden between old pinetrees, the buildings in Scandinavian style seem to arise from the dunes. The atmosphere around the buildings is serene and intimate, since you only hear the wind in the treetops and in the distance there is always the sound of the sea. You can easily walk to the beach, but nearby you can also visit the picturesque village of Hoorn. Here you'll find the oldest church of the island, various restaurants, the (in Holland) famous music café of Hessel and the amazing shop of Ben van Alles.
Our double rooms (De Brêge) are a wonderful experience since your garden door opens straight into the woods. You can also choose for a pleasant four persons-apartment (Koai en Stjûne) on the ground floor with your own kitchen and tv. Or you can choose to sleep in a dormitory (It Roefke), arranged for 4 till 14 persons.
The Folkshegeskoalle originally was set up in 1948 as an education centre and meeting place for Frisian people. The meetings enabled them to experience their own language and culture and discuss social issues. In some names you will still find traces of our old Frisian language, which in several aspects is related more closely to the English language than Dutch is. Nowadays our guests visit us to follow courses on nature painting, singing, sculpture, photography, theatre, poetry, telling stories, meditative dancing or Frisian language. Sometimes a school finds the accommodation quite appropriate and attractive. But many of our guests just come to enjoy our friendly atmosphere as a start for their daytrip on the beautiful island of Terschelling.
